MULTISPECIES RESISTANCE: A CARTOGRAPHY OF LOVE AND DISASTER

WHAT IS MULTISPECIES RESISTANCE?

Multispecies Resistance is an interdisciplinary project working towards an illustrated map of the rich biodiversity and diverse creatures that inhabit the continent of Europe.  We gathered scientists, researchers, activists, and citizens for the creation of an ecopolitical map to translate the natural complexity of Europe into something tangible. Using a multispecies approach, the map unpacks the existence of our more-than-human neighbors living in Europe that are not bound by human-political borders.

WHY MULTISPECIES RESISTANCE?

We aim to change perceptions of Europe as being an ecologically devastated continent. While we acknowledge the ecological crisis we are facing, we believe this is rooted in the disconnection to Europe’s thriving biodiversity. Through community engagement and interactive dialogue, our final map propose coexistence and raises awareness about the critical protection needed for biodiversity in Europe.

We are an international team of researchers and activists working on environmental communication projects. Our team consists of:

Jens Benöhr, Anthropologist, Ecologist | National Geographic Explorer

Maike Brinksma, Land & Water Manager

Ross Donihue, GIS Cartographer | Maps for Good

Dr. David Farò, PostDoc, University of Trento | River Collective

Kara Lena Virik, Landscape Architect & Urban Researcher | River Collective

Antonia Lara | Artist & Illustrator
