Interflugs Lccture Series invits you to visit Aleesa Cohene’s first solo exhibition in Berlin in Galerie Suvi Lehtinen. Aleesa Cohene will present her works. The exhibition features the 4 channel video installation Yes, Angel (2011).
Yes, Angel consists of video clips laboriously edited from Cohene’s personal archive of hundreds of Hollywood films from the 1980s and 90s. Cohene constructs composite characters that interact in a series of scenes across separate screens within the projection. They, together with an almost mythical narrator, tell a story of great loss, shame and finally, hope. The exhibition space includes a wall painting of a night sky reproduced from the projection and a scent inspired by the smell of blood, created by the artist. Cohene’s Yes, Angel immerses the viewer within a narrative of the traumatic traces left by the AIDS epidemic and with the possibility for personal and collective transformation.
